Payroll Clerk – Los Angeles CA

Position Summary:

Under the direction and guidance of the Human Resources Lead the Payroll Clerk is responsible for the processing of weekly payroll companywide. This role is responsible for the collection, reviewing and processing of all union and non-union employee payroll. The Payroll Clerk position requires attention to detail, outstanding organizational, communication and time management skills, as well as the ability to meet deadlines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

To be successful in this role the following essential duties must be performed:

  • Timecard Collection: Gather all employee timecards on a weekly basis for two different company regions (new hires, promotions, terminations)
  • Paper/Manual Review: Review employee timecards and communicate with Supervisors for any discrepancies found
  • Calculate/Verification Process: Complete payroll summaries and verify employee cover sheets by region before processing
  • Wage & Deduction Calculations: Calculating gross-to-net pay, including overtime, bonuses, tax withholdings, insurance deductions, payment garnishments, child support orders, collection notices and any other mandated deduction notices
  • Payment Distribution: Verify payment methods (live check/ACH) and distribute mail to different regions in accordance with the company payment schedule- including special payment schedules around holidays
  • Training and development: Coordinate and facilitate training for new hires/rehires across the company
  • Inquiries: Resolve payroll discrepancies and answer employee payroll inquiries
  • Records Maintenance: Maintain and secure payroll records, including printed timecards, garnishments and any payroll related document
  • Employee Submittals: Responsible for preparing and submitting employee contribution reports (weekly/monthly) for 401k LU2001, Aflac, Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
  • Annual Reports: processing and issuing W-2 forms to employees annually
  • Other HR: Perform other payroll related duties as required from time to time by Management

Specialized Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Audits/Internal Processes: Responsible for providing any payroll-related data for periodic audits and daily correspondence as it pertains to local union, state or federal agencies

Education and Experience:

  • Payroll and Time & Attendance software experience preferred (ADP Workforce Now, Rhumbix, or similar)
  • Experience working within the construction industry of 2 or more years, preferably working for a general contractor or subcontractor on commercial projects.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration is preferred

  • Interpersonal Skills: The ability to work well with others and under pressure to meet specific deadlines
  • Problem-solving: The ability to resolve discrepancies with employee timecards and payouts
  • Attention to Detail: Responsible for verifying errors in time reporting before processing
  • Software/Systems: Proficient in Microsoft Suite. ADP, Rhumbix or similar knowledge a plus
  • Behavioral Skills: Demonstrate behavior consistent with Company core values

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • The Payroll Clerk position has no direct reports.
