Position Summary:
The Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying new project opportunities and clients (e.g., general contractors, developers, architects) to drive business growth across all GEOs. This role involves building and maintaining relationships, developing sales strategies, and collaborating with internal teams to secure contracts and ensure client satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To be successful in this role the following essential duties must be performed:
- Lead Generation & Prospecting: Identify and research new business opportunities and potential clients, including general contractors, and developers by leveraging industry contacts.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers, industry partners, and new and existing customers through networking events, site visits, and meetings.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, such as estimating, preconstruction, marketing, and operations, to ensure alignment of client needs with service capabilities and seamless project delivery.
- Market Analysis: Conduct market research to stay current on industry trends, competitor activity, and potential areas for growth.
- Reporting: Consistently monitor, log, and report on the status of leads, pipeline activity, and sales performance using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software. (e.g., HubSpot).
- Design-assist initiatives: Assist SDP in design assist initiatives for large scale projects consisting of development of division 7/8 specifications, Architectural drawings from SD to permit set, and provide input on Valued Engineering options.
- Brand Promotion: Actively promote the company’s brand, value proposition, and services within the industry to enhance market positioning and visibility.
- Mentorship: Leads by example. Provide coaching and mentoring to Preconstruction, Estimating, and future Business development staff.
- Industry Events: Attend external company and industry events — meetings, training, workshops.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in Sales, Estimating, Business Development or commercial construction or similar industry experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business, construction management or related field or equivalent work experience
- In-depth knowledge of construction principles/best practices
Skills and Competencies:
- Communication & Negotiation: Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and negotiation skills are essential for building rapport and closing deals.
- In-depth knowledge of construction principles/best practices
Analytical skills to forecast and identify trends and challenges. Experience estimating a variety of large-scale projects and contracts - Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, CRM, and Bluebeam
- Ability to build client relationships and trust. Ability to influence others internally and externally.
- Demonstrate behaviors consistent with company core values.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- The Business Development Manager position has no direct reports.
